Welcome to Issaquah

Nicknamed the Trailhead City with more than 200 miles of trails, Issaquah is just east of Seattle where the Puget Sound meets the Cascade Mountains. Issaquah offers the best of both worlds for those wanting to be close to the city but far enough away to escape to the outdoors. In addition to the vast amount of trails, Issaquah is also known for its historic downtown charm, being the home of multinational company Costco’s headquarters, the salmon hatchery, Cougar Mountain Zoo, popular site for paragliders/hang gliders and features plenty of retail shops and restaurants.

Issaquah is located 15 miles east of Seattle at the south end of Lake Sammamish, is over 11 square miles and has a population of over 40,000 people. The city name of “Issaquah” is an anglicized word from a local Native American word meaning either “the sounds of birds”, “snake” or a “little stream”. The city was officially incorporated in 1892 and was initially a small mining community. In the late 1890s when mining deposits became depleted, the focus of the town became lumber. The lumber industry eventually died down as the Great Depression hit, but Issaquah’s growth we’ve seen today is in large part to Microsoft, Boeing, Costco, Darigold and other booming companies located nearby.
